Ladakh, a separate province of state of Jammu
and Kashmir, is distinct in its culture and topography. It is a high
altitude cold desert and the region is part mountain and part flat
terrain. Leh, the capital is located at an altitude of 3,300 mtrs.- 11,500
ft above m.s.l. The landscape is glorious but stark - the surrounding
mountains are painted in colours that only nature can choose. The region
is predominantly Buddhist and several important Buddhist Monasteries are
where the venturesome go for river rafting and for exhilarating treks. The
clean dry air, magnificent scenery and the hospitality of the Ladakhis
make this holiday truly memorable and different.
Popularly known as Ldomra or the Valley of
Flowers, Nubra Valley lies to the north of Ladakh. It is three to five kms.
wide; dwarfed and bounded by gigantic snowy peaks and is approachable
through the highest motorable Khardung La Pass (at a height of 18,383
ft.). Majestic peaks and glaciers, enchanting valleys and villages are
many attractions of the Nubra Valley.

Zanskar comprises of a tri-armed valley
system lying between the great Himalayan Range and the Zanskar Mountains.
It is mainly along the course of this valley system that the region's 10,000 strong mainly Buddhist population live. An area of 5,000 sq. kms.
Zanskar is surrounded by high rise mountains and deep Gorges. One of the
major attractions of this region is the vast scope for trekking.
