The
heart throb of Mughal Emperors and the capital of India, New Delhi lies in
the heart of Northern India. Abode of the Gods, the Northern part of India
houses the mighty Himalayan Ranges with numerous religious sites. Birth
place of many rivers such as the Ganges, Yamuna, and the five rivers of
Punjab, Northern India has many Hill Stations, Trekking Routes, Wildlife
Sanctuaries and Adventure Sports to its credit. There's something
interesting for everyone be it Religion, Culture, Heritage, Adventure or
even for those looking for a quiet holiday in serene surroundings. The
popular amongst the holiday destinations are New Delhi, Agra, Jaipur and the
Rajasthan Circuit, Varanasi, Khajuraho, Amritsar and Leh.
The vibrant capital city has a fascinating past
and a stimulating present. It has seen the rise and fall of numerous
dynasties which have left deep impressions on this old, yet new city. Delhi
gives the chance of viewing and contrasting the pre and post -
independence cultures that are prevalent in different parts of the city.
Spare your maximum time for the Capital City because there's so much to
experience and feel.

Travel
to Leh is recommended between May to September. Visit the famous Hemis
Monastery, Spituk Village, Khardung La (the highest motorable pass in the
world listed in the Guinness Book of World Records) , Nubra Valley, the
ultimate geographic picture and many such areas visited only by a lucky few.
Leh, the main town of the region, is dominated by Sengge Namgyal's nine-storey
Palace, a building in the grand tradition of Tibetan architecture, said to
have inspired the famous Potala in Lhasa, which was built half a century
later. Above it, on Namgyal Tsemo, the peak overlooking the Woen, are the
ruins of the earliest royal residence at Leh, a fort built by King Tashi
Namgyal in the 16th century. The associated temples remain intact, but they
are kept locked except during the morning and evening hours when a monk
toils up the hills from Sankar Gompa to attend to the butter-lamps in front
of the images.

Agra,
the city of the one and only, famous "Taj Mahal" forms a part of
the famous "Golden Triangle" of India, the other two cities being
Delhi and Jaipur. It is connected to Delhi by road (204 Kms, a journey of 4
hours) a 40 min flight by Indian Airlines and a 2 hrs. journey by luxury
train. The "Taj Mahal", one of the wonders of the world, was built
by Emperor Shahjahan in the memory of his beloved Queen Mumtaz Mahal. The
most memorable and exhilarating experience is viewing the Taj on a moonlight
night. The Agra Fort is like a city within a city, having palaces, mosques,
bazaars, royal audience halls, gardens and parks. The most impressive parts
of the fort are the "Diwan-e-Aam" (Hall of Public Audience) and
"Diwan-e-Khaas" (Hall of Private Audience). This excursion into
the past takes you to other interesting places around Agra such as Fatehpur
Sikri, the Deserted Ghost City built by Akbar, the Great. It lies 37 Kms.
west of Agra. Akbar abandoned Fatehpur Sikri due to shortage of water and
moved to his new capital, Agra. There are two main gateways namely the SHAHI
DARWAZA and the BULAND DARWAZA. The tall GATE
OF VICTORY is visible for miles. The Gateway has a "Koranic"
inscription. There are many stairs in front of the gateway enhancing its
beauty .

Rajasthan,
a true blend of heroism and romance, is a state set amidst desolate desert
in the North West of India. "Rajputana" as it was known earlier,
was the home of Rajputs, a group of warrior clans well known for their
chivalry and honour akin to the European Knights. It is a land of
superlatives- everything here is breathtakingly beautiful fascinating and
impressive. There is a certain magic about travelling through Rajasthan,
teeming with colour, joy and friendliness, that is unequalled by any other
place in the world.

One of the most sacred and spiritual places for
Hindus. The old name of Varanasi is "Benaras". It is situated on
the banks of the Holy River Ganga and is accessible by air and by overnight
journey by train from Delhi. Do not miss the Boat Ride along the River
Ganges. A good option is to visit Khajuraho Temples famous for their
sculpted panels, bedlads in stone, considered as some of the most perfect
creations of man.
The old city in Punjab traces the holiest of
Sikh Shrines "The Golden Temple", with gold leaf dome. Do not
forget to visit the "Jallianwala Bagh", where 300 innocent people
were massacred during India's struggle for Independence.
