This western coast state has close ties with Mahatma Gandhi. In Ahemdabad the Father of the Nation was born and spent his early years. In the neighbourhood are Porbander, Diu & Daman and Kutch region of Gujarat.

M A H A R A S H T R A

Adjoining the Southern end of Gujarat is Maharashtra (Great Country !) a major gateway for overseas visitors. Mumbai (Originally Bombay) is the Commercial Capital which provides excellent connections to other tourist destinations such as Aurangabad & Goa. Aurangabad is a small town which is famous for the nearby Ajanta & Ellora Caves, which are a marvel in rock sculpture and a congregation of Temples and Monasteries.

A U R A N G A B A D

A city founded by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb as his viceregal capital in the Deccan, serves as the base to explore the famous Ajanta & Ellora caves. Paintings and images created by the artists of the 5th Century A.D. at Ajanta illustrate major events in the life of Buddha. The town of Aurangabad has some interesting monuments too such as Bibi ka Maqbara and the Pan Chakki (a 17th Century water-mill). Excursions from Aurangabad include Daulatabad, an old Hindu Fortress which became the second capital of the Delhi Sultanate in 14th A.D. This lies enroute to the Ellora cave temples having 34 caves. It is conveniently accessible by air from Delhi and Udaipur.

G O A

The Western sector stretches uptill Goa, a tourist heaven. The Portuguese colony is a picturesque land of scenic charm, Myriad attraction and Ornate Churches . The 100 km. long Goan coastline has some of the most famous beaches of India.
